Aber falls is one of my favourite hikes so far, And the waterfall is the best waterfall I have seen and it might just be the most beautiful hike I have ever done.
You park up and walk down a path and within minutes from the carpark you are looking at the waterfall, which is lovely for people that may not be able to walk far.
Heading over to the waterfall, you can really feel the force of the water. We got soaked just by standing near it for the photo. We took a couple of photos each before heading off quicky to try and dry off and admire the waterfall from a dry distance instead.
Next was time to head up to our mountains of the day. We followed the path up the hill on the left hand side of the waterfall, up the slate to the top of the waterfall, This slate is not fun to walk across as it just moves when you stand on it. We did this on a dry day but it had been wet, trying to get over some bits, we found our feet getting wet.
It is amazing how far the waterfall and the water that leads up to it goes, there are so many mini waterfalls to follow at the top too. Plenty of small pools for a lovely dip on a warm and dry day.
We stopped to enjoy many of the pools and mini waterfalls before carrying on to our first mountain. We headed up on a hard slog but due to this the team had to split, half went around the scramble and half went up the scramble. Climbing up the scramble was fun, trying to find your way around the loose rocks, what wasn’t fun, was the wind at the top! We sat in the shelter bit while we waited for the others, but even climbing in and out of the shelters we were nearly blown over!
Once the others joined us, we tried to get our group photo in the wind before starting to head down. At this point, the decision was made that we would have to miss out some of the mountains I had planned that day. We followed the route round as I had planned but around the bottom of most of the mountains. Apart from one, we were pretty much at the top of this one, so we went ahead and got it before heading back down.
The weather was changing on us and it was starting to go dark. We got an amazing sunset though while on the last mountain and got to enjoy the site of wild horses. Before getting back to the car in the dark.
It was a fun and interesting day that we had, and we got to experience many different things, weather and times of day!
In the summer this would make the perfect place for a hike, summer sun, a picnic, a dip in the water and a couple of Welsh 3000’s. What a perfect day!
This is 100% a place I will be going back to and would recommend anyone has a visit here if you have never been!
